Scientific training course on laser interactions with living tissues and their cellular effects

The Department of medical physics at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul held a scientific training course within the continuing education program, entitled “photochemical and biological interactions of lasers with living tissues and their cellular effects”, during the period from Sunday, September 20, 2026 to Thursday, September 24, 2026, in the seminar hall, in the presence of a number of teachers and students of the Department. The course dealt with the mechanism of interaction of laser beams with living tissues, according to several factors, including wavelength, radiation intensity, exposure time, tissue properties, as well as the effect of absorption of light energy by biomolecules in stimulating photochemical reactions and the production of reactive oxygen species, and the consequent effects on the activity of enzymes, membranes and cellular organelles. The course also addressed the vital responses resulting from these reactions, their role in tissue repair, as well as the possible effects of high doses of lasers and the cellular changes or damage they may cause in the target cells and tissues. The course was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. rafed Ahmed Abdullah, Assistant Professor Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Mohammed Fakhri, and teacher Dr. Jassim Mohammed Yassin Ahmed. Our wishes to the course’s organizers and participants for continued success, further giving and scientific excellence.
