Two New Tomato Cultivars Registered in the NCBI Gene Bank 🧬

As part of the ongoing scientific achievements at the College of Science, two new tomato cultivars have been successfully registered for the first time in the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) Gene Bank.
These cultivars were recorded by Prof. Dr. Amjad Abdulhadi Mohammed, Head of the Department of Biology, and master’s student Mashhad Mohammed Ali:
-
Solanum lycopersicum cultivar Mutant 1 – Accession No. PV412943
-
Solanum lycopersicum cultivar Mutant 2 – Accession No. PV412944
These new cultivars resulted from a successful genetic transformation process, in which T-DNA genes from Agrobacterium rhizogenes ATCC 15834 were transferred into the tomato genome and confirmed at the molecular level.
The Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the researchers, wishing them continued success and excellence.
