Master thesis discusses the preparation, diagnosis and theoretical study of Schiff base complexes derived from 8,1-diamino-naphthalene

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Chemistry Department of the College of Sciences discussed the master’s thesis submitted by the student Nur Nizar Bakr and tagged “preparation, diagnosis and theoretical study of the complexes of Schiff bases derived from 8,1-diaminophthalene”, in the presence of the dean of the College, the esteemed Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the administrative and Scientific Assistants of the Dean, the head of the chemistry department, the esteemed Prof. Dr. Salim Jassim Mohammed and a number of the college’s best teachers.

The discussion committee consisted of Mr. A. Dr. Asim Adel Sabah-president and a.M.Dr. Fanar Mohamed Ismail Mohamed-member and a.M.Dr. Samaa Adnan Rauf Amin-member and a.M.Dr. Khansa Shaker Naamat Allah Naamat-member, supervisor and a.M.Dr. Shaima Hashim Abdul Rahman-member and supervisor

The thesis dealt with the preparation of a group of new mono-and Tri-age ligands of the Schiff bases class, through the condensation reaction of the basic amino compound (8,1-diamino-naphthalene) with suitable aldehydes and ketones under specific conditions, and the preparation of its mononuclear complexes with a number of transition and non-transition metal ions.

It also included the diagnosis of compounds prepared using advanced analytical and spectroscopic techniques, along with conducting a theoretical study using the deltoid density theory (DFT), and evaluating biological effectiveness against both types of bacteria E.coli and S.aureus by the method of drilling wells, as well as measuring the antioxidant capacity using the DPPH test for both ligands and their complexes.

The thesis is aimed at analyzing the relationship between the chemical structure of the prepared complexes and their biophysical effectiveness, identifying the possibilities of their use in future medical and environmental applications.

At the end of the discussion, the dean of the faculty presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Professor Dr. Asim Adel Sabah from the College of Basic Education / University of Mosul, and assistant prof. Dr. Samaa Adnan Rauf Amin from the northern Technical University / Technical Institute, in appreciation of their scientific efforts and their active participation in the discussion of the thesis.

Our heartfelt congratulations to the outstanding student and our wishes to our students for success and reaching the highest ranks of Science and giving
