Discussion of a master’s thesis at the College of science at the University of Mosul on the synthesis of new compounds derived from N-aminophthalimide

The tagged master’s thesis was discussed at the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science / University of Mosul, today, Monday, November 3, 2025:
«Docking, Ultrasonic synthesis of some Schiff bases and four, five and six of aza-Heterocyclic compounds derived from N-aminophthalimide»
Which was submitted by student Mohammed Bashir Khalil al-Himat.
Prof. Dr. Salem Jassim, Head of the Department of chemistry, and a number of college teachers and graduate students attended part of the discussion.
The dissertation dealt with the synthesis of new compounds in an environmentally friendly way using ultrasonic synthesis, which included the preparation of a number of Schiff bases and heterocyclic compounds derived from N-aminophthalimide. The compositions of the products were determined based on their physical properties and spectral data using FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR techniques.
The study also included theoretical research on molecular docking of all prepared compounds, as some of them showed high efficacy against Coagulation Factor X, which is responsible for converting prothrombin into thrombin in the presence of Factor V, calcium ions and phospholipids during the blood clotting process.
The study concluded by testing the biological effectiveness of a number of compounds prepared against various types of bacteria, including:
Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus) and gram-negative bacteria (E. coli)coli and Klebsiella), where some compounds have shown characteristic effectiveness against those species.
The discussion committee consisted of:
- Prof. Dr. Rafid Kamal Jamil-chairman،
- Assistant prof. Dr. Saeed Abdulkader Saeed-member،
- Teacher Dr. Saleh awaid Abboud-member،
Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Adnan Osman Omar.
At the end of the discussion session, on behalf of the dean of the College of science, prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the head of the Department of chemistry, prof. Dr. Salem Jassim, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Prof. Dr. Rafid Kamal Jamil from the College of Dentistry / Al Noor University, in appreciation of his scientific efforts and his active participation in the discussion of the thesis.
