Master thesis discusses the preparation of zinc selenide ZnSe thin films by the chemical bath method

On Monday, December 8, 2025, the Department of physics at the College of Science/University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis entitled ” preparation of thin zinc selenide ZnSe membranes by chemical bath method and studying their structural and physical properties”, presented by student Ala Abdulkhaleq Mahmoud.
The dean of the College of science, prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the administrative assistant, the head of the department, as well as a number of department teachers and graduate students attended part of the discussion.
The thesis examined the preparation of ZnSe thin films using the chemical bath deposition (CBD) technique and using two different sources of external ions, studying the effect of thermal annealing at 250°C on the synthetic and optical properties.
The XRD results showed that the membranes are polycrystalline, while the FESEM and edX Technologies revealed the surface properties and the distribution of elements. The optical properties were also investigated within the range (320-1000 nm), the membranes showed an energy gap of 2.7 eV, which increased after annealing.
The study also included the manufacture of a p-CdTe/n-ZnSe Connection, its electrical examination, the calculation of the threshold voltage and the factor of idealization of the diode.
