A college member from the College of Science participates in supervising and discussing a master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture and Forestry.

Based on the College of Science’s commitment to promoting scientific activities, strengthening academic cooperation among Iraqi universities, and facilitating the exchange of scientific expertise among college members, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Mukhaiber Hamdoun from the Chemistry Department at our college participated in supervising and discussing a Master’s thesis at the College of Agriculture and Forestry/Plant Protection Department on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

The thesis, titled “Sorting Some Apricot Varieties for Apricot Aphid Infestation and the Efficacy of Wood Vinegar and Acetapride Insecticide in Controlling It,” was submitted by student Rahma Mohammed Mansour.

The study aimed to identify the most resistant apricot variety by comparing the percentage and severity of leaf infestation in the five tested varieties. It also aimed to determine the optimal timing for control by studying the seasonal activity of the different life stages of the insect. Furthermore, it examined the effectiveness of some natural alternatives, such as wood vinegar and potassium compounds, in controlling the pest.

The study recommended focusing control operations, particularly chemical ones, during March and April, coinciding with the peak activity of the mobile stages and before their migration to secondary hosts. It also emphasized the importance of conducting winter egg-stage surveys during January to reduce the pest’s initial population, as well as highlighting the role of genetics in resistance to infestation.

At the conclusion of the discussion, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Mukhaiber Hamdoun was presented with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his distinguished scientific efforts and his active contribution to the supervision and discussion.

Finally, the College of Science wishes all its professors and students continued success in their academic pursuits.
