A scientific field visit for postgraduate students in the Chemistry Department to Mosul International Airport

In accordance with the directives of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision and guidance of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hayam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the Head of the Chemistry Department, Dr. Firas Ahmed Dhunoun, and stemming from the College of Science’s commitment to broadening the horizons of science and knowledge for its students in various fields,

the Chemistry Department organized a field trip for postgraduate students to Mosul International Airport on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, accompanied by several faculty members.

During the visit, the students were introduced to several vital departments within the airport, including the diagnostic technologies and equipment used to examine gold jewelry entering through the airport, the mechanisms for stamping it, and the methods for determining its type and percentage. They also learned about the procedures for inspecting materials entering the airport to ensure their safety and security, thus enhancing the students’ practical and theoretical knowledge.

The visit also included a tour of the airport terminals, during which the students were introduced to the various services provided to travelers in detail.

At the conclusion of the visit, its importance was emphasized due to the valuable information it provided, which helped bridge the gap between theory and practice. The College of Science extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the administration of Mosul International Airport for their warm welcome, constructive cooperation, and the scientific information they provided, which broadened the students’ understanding and enhanced their field experience.
