Research Team from the Department of Biology Registers a New Bacterial Strain in the Global NCBI Gene Bank

A research team from the Department of Biology, College of Science, has successfully registered a new bacterial strain in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Gene Bank database as part of its academic research activities.

The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Abdul Ghani Mohammed, with the participation of fourth-year graduation project students Rahma Qais Salah Al-Din and Fahad Ahmed Hammoudi.

The registered bacterial strain belongs to Enterococcus faecium strain RaFaMo2026. It was isolated from patients suffering from bacteremia and identified using molecular techniques based on the analysis and sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene.

The genetic sequence was officially deposited in the GenBank database of the NCBI under the accession number:

PZ295586

This achievement represents an important contribution to academic scientific research, supporting the documentation and accessibility of molecular data related to bacterial isolates for researchers worldwide, and contributing to the advancement of scientific and medical studies in this field.

The Deanship of the College of Science and the Presidency of the Department of Biology commended the efforts of the research team, emphasizing the significance of this achievement in strengthening the department’s and the college’s scientific and research endeavors. They also wished the research team and the students continued success and excellence in their academic careers.
