Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences Holds Faculty Meeting

As part of the College of Science’s commitment to advancing academic and scientific excellence, the Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences at the University of Mosul held an expanded faculty meeting on Sunday, 7 June 2026. The meeting was chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Omar Khallouk Mohammed Sajid, Head of the Department, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Saddam Issa Mustafa, Department Rapporteur, with the attendance of faculty members.

The meeting addressed several important agenda items, foremost among them the completion of the department’s curriculum learning outcomes in accordance with the ministerial guidelines recently issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for all academic courses and programs.

Discussions also focused on the preparation of the Laboratory Self-Assessment Report, whereby each laboratory is responsible for preparing its own report based on its scientific specialization. Faculty members were instructed to complete all sections of the assessment forms accurately and in accordance with the approved standards and specifications. In addition, the meeting emphasized the need to prepare all required supporting documents and attachments, including the administrative structure of the department for the academic year 2025–2026, as well as maps and layout plans of laboratories and academic units.

The department also reviewed the requirements related to laboratory equipment inventories, including lists of laboratory instruments extracted directly from the approved electronic management system. Supporting materials such as a sample laboratory manual and a sample student laboratory report for a scientific experiment were also discussed.

Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the importance of updating the department’s Emergency and Safety Plan, supported by clear and recent photographic documentation of safety requirements and equipment, including fume hoods, fire suppression systems, water drainage networks, early warning systems, and other safety-related facilities.

Faculty members were urged to expedite the completion and submission of the required reports within the specified deadlines to avoid any administrative or technical delays.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Department reaffirmed the department’s commitment to its ambitious plans for enhancing academic and research performance, thereby strengthening the standing of the College and the University at the local, regional, and international levels. He also encouraged faculty members to continue their dedicated efforts toward achieving these objectives.

The College extends its best wishes to all faculty members for continued success, excellence, and distinguished scientific achievements.
