World Geologists’ Day

In celebration of science and its scholars, and in recognition of the pioneering role played by geologists in uncovering the Earth’s secrets and harnessing its resources to serve humanity, the College of Science marks World Geologists’ Day, observed annually on the first Sunday of April, which corresponds this year to 5 April 2026. This occasion represents an important milestone in acknowledging the contributions of geoscientists in building the present and shaping the future.

On this occasion, the College of Science, represented by its Dean, Prof. Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, extends its sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences and to all geologists, in appreciation of their outstanding scientific efforts and their vital role in serving society and advancing sustainable development.

This day was first established in 1966 to honor significant achievements made by geologists, particularly in the fields of oil and gas exploration, which have greatly contributed to the development of natural resource sciences and the support of the global economy.

The selection of this date also coincides with the beginning of April, marking the end of winter and the start of field seasons and geological expeditions, during which geologists embark on exploration missions to better understand Earth formations and uncover its hidden structures.

In conclusion, we express our pride in this distinguished scientific community and wish all geologists continued success and excellence in their academic and professional careers.

Happy World Geologists’ Day.
