Graduate Studies Seminar Activities in the Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences

As part of supporting scientific research and enhancing the academic capabilities of graduate students, the Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences / College of Science at the University of Mosul held a scientific seminar on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, presented by M.Sc. student Berta Daniel Yohana entitled:
“Depositional Environment and Petrophysical Properties of the Shu’aiba Formation (Early Qamchuqa) in Well K260, Kirkuk Oil Field, Northeastern Iraq”
The seminar was supervised by Professor Dr. Rafi Ibrahim Abdullah and Assistant Professor Dr. Bashar Aziz Mahmood Al-Juraisy, and was attended by the Head of the Department, Dr. Omar Khallouq Mohammed Sajid, along with a number of faculty members and graduate students.
The study focused on determining the depositional environment and petrophysical characteristics of the formation within the Kirkuk Oil Field using well-log data provided by the North Oil Company in Kirkuk. The research also included a petrographic and microscopic examination of thin sections prepared from rock samples collected from the field.
The seminar contributed to enriching scientific discussions and strengthening the research capabilities of graduate students in the field of geology and petroleum sciences.
We wish our dear students continued success and academic excellence.
