Fungal Isolate Recorded by Researchers from the College of Science in the Global NCBI Database

A research team from the Department of Biology at the College of Science has successfully registered a new fungal isolate in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database as part of its academic research activities aimed at documenting molecular data of living organisms and making it accessible to the global scientific community.
The study was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Jihan Muwaffaq Al-Rawi, with the participation of student researchers: Israa Salem Mohsen, Fatima Othman Shakir, and Rayan Raad Mohammed.
The recorded fungal isolate belongs to the basidiomycete species Ganoderma resinaceum, which was isolated from the gardens of the University of Mosul. It was identified using modern molecular techniques based on the analysis and sequencing of nucleotide regions ITS1 and ITS4.
The genetic sequences were officially deposited in the GenBank database of the NCBI under the isolate code JRFE1 and accession number PZ026886.1.
This achievement supports academic research requirements and strengthens the presence of researchers in international scientific databases. It also contributes to documenting molecular data of fungal isolates and making them available to researchers, thereby supporting future studies in biodiversity and biotechnology.
