Department of Biology at the College of Science Holds Three Scientific Seminars for Postgraduate Students

The Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Mosul, held three scientific seminars for postgraduate students on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, in Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Haj Qasim Hall, with the attendance of faculty members and postgraduate students from the department.

The first seminar was delivered by PhD student Rawnaq Ibrahim Mustafa (Botany) and was entitled:

“The Effect of Gamma Radiation on Selected Growth Parameters of Mung Bean and the Expression of the Gene Responsible for Globulin Protein Biosynthesis, with the Investigation of Some of Its Biological Applications.”

The seminar examined the effects of gamma radiation on selected growth characteristics of mung bean plants, analyzed the expression of the gene responsible for globulin protein biosynthesis, and highlighted several of its biological applications.

The second seminar was presented by Master’s student Anfal Amer Zaki Dawood (Botany), entitled:

“Efficiency of Agar Extracted from the Red Alga Compsopogon in the Biosynthesis of Calcium Nanoparticles and Their Role in Flax Tissue Growth.”

The seminar explored the use of agar extracted from the red alga Compsopogon in the green synthesis of calcium nanoparticles and investigated their effects on the growth and development of flax tissues, highlighting their potential applications in agricultural biotechnology.

The third seminar was delivered by Master’s student Mundhir Ahmed Ismail (Zoology), entitled:

“Evaluation of Fertility Hormones and Semen Quality in Patients with Vitamin D Deficiency.”

The seminar reviewed the impact of vitamin D deficiency on fertility hormones and selected semen quality parameters, as well as the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and reproductive performance.

These seminars were presented as part of the postgraduate research requirements. The first seminar was supervised by Prof. Dr. Jinan Abdul Khaliq Saeed and Prof. Dr. Rana Tariq Yahya. The second seminar was supervised by Prof. Dr. Rana Tariq Yahya and Lect. Dr. Hala Muzhir Yaqoub, while the third seminar was supervised by Lect. Dr. Muwaffaq Khalil Hassan.

The seminars featured productive scientific discussions that contributed to refining and enriching the research projects, reflecting the Department of Biology’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and advancing postgraduate education and scientific research.
