As part of the ongoing series of scientific and research achievements at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul, professor Dr. Anmar Ahmed al-Taie and a master’s student in microbiology, Shahad Moaz al-Sawaf, were able to register 19 bacterial strains in the global gene bank of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The registered strains included 12 strains of Staphylococcus haemolyticus bacteria, four strains of Staphylococcus aureus, three strains of Staphylococcus epidermidis, and carried the codes from ShaAnm1 to ShaAnm19, and by serial numbers from PZ627394 to PZ627412. The two researchers were also able to register a bacterial phage specific to Staphylococcus bacteria, in an achievement recorded for the first time at the level of Iraq, and the phage carried the code SHAN26 and the serial number PZ683216. Bacterial and phage strains have been isolated from various pathological samples collected from Mosul city hospitals. This registration represents a new scientific addition to the research output of the Faculty of Science, and contributes to the documentation of bacterial strains and phages isolated locally within global genetic databases, supporting future studies in the fields of Microbiology, Genetics and biological applications.
