The Department of life sciences at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul held three scientific seminars for graduate students, on Sunday, August 23, 2026 in the Hall of Professor Dr. Qusay Abdul Qadir Chalabi, in the presence of a number of department teachers and graduate students. The first seminar included a presentation by a master’s student in zoology Safa Omar Yaarab, entitled: “Role of Some Types of sncRNA Gene on Regulation of Hexokinase 2 (HK2) Gene Expression and Glycolysis Process in Women with Breast Cancer” The seminar discussed the role of some types of small non-coding RNA (sncRNA) in regulating the gene expression of the HK2 gene associated with the glycolysis process in women with breast cancer, which contributes to understanding the molecular mechanisms associated with the metabolism in cancer cells. The second seminar was for PhD student in microbiology Zeina Salem Awfi Mohammed, entitled: “Molecular Characterization of Enteric Viruses Causing Acute Gastroenteritis among Children under Five Years Old in Mosul City” The seminar dealt with the molecular characterization of enteroviruses causing acute gastroenteritis in children under the age of five in Mosul, with the aim of identifying the viral types causing infections and supporting molecular diagnostic methods. The seminars concluded with a presentation by master’s student in zoology Zeinab Sultan Mohammed Daoud, entitled: “Molecular histological study of infection with the Sarcoptes scabiei parasite in Nineveh Governorate” The seminar dealt with the study of histological and molecular changes associated with infection with the Sarcoptes scabiei parasite in Nineveh governorate, which contributes to enhancing knowledge of pathological responses and molecular mechanisms associated with infection. These seminars came within the requirements of the completion of graduate students, as they were completed under the supervision of Professor Dr. Owais Mowafaq Hamid for the first Seminar, Professor Dr. Anmar Ahmed Daoud for the second seminar, and assistant professor Dr. Najah Sobhi Nayef for the third seminar.the seminars witnessed constructive scientific discussions that contributed to enriching research topics and developing them.
