On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Department of life sciences at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Mosul discussed the master’s thesis tagged ” “evaluation of some physiological and biochemical variables in patients with clinical amoebiasis in Nineveh Governorate” submitted by researcher Esra Saleh Ahmed namis Sheikh Isa from the specialty of Zoology. ​The study dealt with the evaluation of physiological and biochemical changes associated with clinical amoebiasis, by examining the complete blood picture (CBC) and serum ferritin level, as well as assessing the enzymatic effectiveness of hepatic alt enzymes, FASN builder of fatty acids, pancreatic enzymes (amylase and lipase), hormonal changes in cortisol and oxytocin, in addition to measuring other biomolecules. ​The aim of the study was to investigate the extent of the spread of the tissue-amoeba parasite among patients attending Mosul teaching hospitals, determine the extent of changes in blood parameters, measure hormonal and enzyme variables and biomolecules in the blood of the infected, and try to find a physiological explanation of the interrelation between psychological stress and hormonal changes and enzymatic and metabolic functions associated with injury. ​The results of the study showed that the tissue-amoeba parasite continued to be endemic in Nineveh Governorate, with its prevalence varying between the two sides of the city, and significant changes in the blood picture and iron deficiency accompanied by mild to moderate anemia were recorded. The results also showed a significant increase in the hormone cortisol and a decrease in the hormone oxytocin, with an increase in the enzymes FASN Walt, pancreatic amylase and lipase, an increase in fasting blood glucose and triglycerides and a decrease in total proteins, reflecting the overall pathological effect of intestinal infection with Amoeba on the physiological and metabolic functions of the host. ​The discussion Committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Munif Abdul Mustafa Suleiman, and the membership of assistant professor Dr. Najah Sobhi Nayef Khattab, teacher Dr. mowafak Khalil Hassan Ali, and under the supervision and membership of assistant professor Dr. Marwa Hashim Daoud hammoushi.
