Students of the Department of Earth and petroleum Sciences embark on a field course of field work in Duhok

Students of the fourth stage at the Department of Earth and petroleum Sciences – Faculty of Science / University of Mosul, this Tuesday morning, September 15, 2026, started the activities of the summer field work course in Duhok Governorate, specifically in the convex baykhir fold. The field work program included training students to distinguish the types of rocks in the field, determine the nature and location of the boundaries between the exposed geological formations, measure the direction and inclination of the layers, and study the structural manifestations represented by folds and faults. The program also included the provision of evening theoretical lectures at the students ‘ residence, which dealt with the geological formations expected to be studied within the convex Bichir Fold area, thus enhancing the integration between the theoretical aspect and field application. This course comes within the practical training requirements for the students of the department, with the aim of developing their field skills and enhancing their ability to read geological structures and phenomena and interpret them in the field.
