Workshop on insulin and hormone resistance

As part of the continuing education activities, the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science – University of Mosul held, on Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, a scientific workshop entitled “insulin and hormone resistance”, in the presence of a group of professors of the Department of chemistry and those interested in the subject of the workshop from inside and outside the University of Mosul. The workshop dealt with the concept of insulin resistance and the causes leading to it, the role of hormonal disorders in reducing the response of body cells to insulin, as well as reviewing modern laboratory and clinical diagnostic methods. The workshop showed that insulin resistance is closely related to weight gain and visceral fat, and may lead to disorders in the secretion of thyroid hormones, cortisol and growth hormones, which increases the risk of developing Type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The workshop also highlighted the importance of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, regulating sleep hours, reducing stress, to control hormone levels and improve the sensitivity of cells to insulin. The workshop was presented by Professor Dr. Sakina Hussein Rashid Al-Rawi, assistant professor Dr. Saba Zaki Mahmoud, professor Thanaa Yacoub, assistant professor Dr. Basma Ahmed Abdul Hadi, and the teacher Shaima Messer, and the workshop witnessed the presence and interaction of professors of the Department of chemistry and those interested in its subject from inside and outside the University. The holding of this workshop is part of the continuing education activities in the Department of chemistry, and the department is keen to promote scientific awareness and exchange knowledge in topics related to health, scientific research and community service. Our wishes to the workshop’s organizers and participants for continued success, further giving and scientific excellence.
