A master’s thesis discussing the separation and study of the active compounds extracted from rand leaves

On the morning of Sunday, February 6, 2022, the College of Science at the University of Mosul discussed a master’s thesis entitled “Separation and Study of Active Compounds Extracted from Laurus Nobilis Leaves and Their Effect on Experimental Animals Affected by Diabetes.” Part of it was attended by the Scientific Assistant to the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Munir Salem Taha and The Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Al-Taii, and several the department’s lecturers. The thesis submitted by the student (Asr Ehsan Abdullah Al-Affendi) from the Department of Chemistry dealt with isolating and extracting the active compounds from the rand plant and studying their effect on rats with diabetes induced with alloxan. The study used 168 white adult male rats divided randomly, with an average of 6 rats per group, to conduct seven experiments that showed the effect of oily extracts, cold and boiled crude aqueous extract, and cold and boiled protein precipitate of rand plant on some biochemical variables associated with diabetes, as well as their effect on the activity of liver enzymes. The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Nizar Ahmed Nagy and the membership of each of the Assistant Professor Dr. Sarab Daoud Suleiman and Assistant Professor Dr. Sakina Hussain Rasheed and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Zaki Al-Abaji. The Dean of the College presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Prof. Dr. Nizar Ahmed Naji from the College of Science / University of Tikrit, for incurring the trouble of traveling and chairing the discussion committee.
