uUnder the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education for Human Sciences, Prof. Dr. Hazem Thanoun Ismail Al Sabawiin cooperation with the Women’s Empowerment Unit at the Presidency of the University of Mosulon the morning of Monday, the 4 th. of April, 2022, the Department of Geography held an instructional lecture entitled “Strategies against Suicide” within the branches of crime geography and social geographypresented by Asmaa Khaled Gergees HamadehPart of the lecture was attended by the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Prof. Dr.. Hazem Thanun Al Sabawiand the head of the Geography Department, Prof. Dr.Lamia Hussein Ali Al-Sabawi and a number of students of the department.The lecture has dealt withthe concept of suicide, causes, and strategies of preventing suicide, and a number of goals and future visions in this work has been presented, among them were the following:1-Increasing the efficiency of health and social care services in responding to those in nee. This includes better training of health workers and recruitment of organizations to provide psychological crisis counseling. 2-Reducing domestic violence, substance abuse, addiction to alcohol and divorce and developing long-term strategies to reduce many mentaltroubles.health problems 3-Reducing access to that lead to suicide, for example, poisonous substances7, pistols, etc 4-Addressing family disintegration, the spread of drugs, the absence of the role of the educational institution, and the reasons that deprived life of its luster and made a family member commitsuicide.-5Preventing suicides as a national interest, which must be confronted by a joint action of government ministries and local authorities, led by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior Affairs..Future vision:1-Administring master theses and doctoral dissertations by the Departmrnt of Psychological and Educational Sciences.2-Activating the Counseling and Mental Health Center at the College of Education for Humanities3-Establishing a center for treating addiction in Nineveh; because Nineveh Governorate is the second largest one in terms of population..4-Activating a national programme to prevent suicide acts with the aim of reducing their number ,and suicide attempts and helping families whose loved ones committed suicide..After the lecture was finished, the discussion was opened and questions were asked andthe following questions are among them:1- The problem of suicide between the lack of religious scruples and the decline in the role of the family in society, instruxtion and upbringing in the light of social and economic changes and globalization.2-How did the phenomenon of suicide spread?3-The effect of suicide on the individual and society.
