A master’s thesis at University of Mosul discusses ( Determine the optimum operating policy for a single reservoir system with competing objectives )

In the presence of the President of University of Mosul respected Prof. Dr. Kossay Kamalaldeen Alahmadi, A master thesis in Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering at the University of Mosul discusses ( Determine the optimum operating policy for a single reservoir system with competing objectives ) by the student Mohammed Awni Khattab on Wednesday 11 / 11/2020.
The thesis included building anoptimizationmodelfor a realistic reservoir system for the purpose of achieving two main competing goals and adopting them as operational goals using analysis models for multi-purpose functions and determining the appropriate operating policy for the Mosul Dam reservoirusinggenetic algorithms. The study also included an investigation of the strengths and weaknesses of the multi-objective analysis methods in determining the appropriate plan and then the operating policy.
The thesis reached thepossibility of obtaining multiple non-linear analysis targets using genetic algorithms show that the way the weights are not suitable to some extent in finding the optimal policy and operational systems with conflicting goals of storage .The determinant method has been shown to bemorereliablein determining preference values for targets. The study recommended that the performance of a single storage system ( Mosul Dam reservoir ) should be tested by combining the used multi-purpose optimization model with a simulation model . and the use of multi-objective analysis applied in the study when there are more than one decision maker at the same time differing in views about the benefitfrom the project objectives. The use of multi-objective analysis on a group of reservoirs located to the north of the Fatha area in the Tigris River basin(Mosul,Bakhmeh,Dokan, andMakhmoor ) toobtain the best operating policy with more than one objective. The discussion committee consistedof:
1. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel … (Chairman).
2. Asst. Prof. Dr. Anas Mahmood Mohammed Rashid … ( Member ).
3. Dr. Yousif Hashim Abdullah …. ( Member ).
4. Prof. Dr. Kamel Ali AbdulMohseen … ( Member and Supervisor ).Then the discussion committee read the decision which included approval the thesis and award the student a master degree.
