College of Engineering as a Strategic Partner in Serving the Community and Solving Government Institutions’ Problems: A Mechanism for Studying the Water Situation

As part of College of Engineering’s ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration with government institutions and contribute to addressing the challenges they face, the Dean of College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoon, received Engineer Omar Saleh, the representative of Nineveh Water Directorate, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The meeting was also attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Muqdad Abdulghani, Head of Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering.

The meeting focused on discussing the main issues faced by the Directorate. As a result, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Muqdad Abdul Ghani was assigned to hold an expanded meeting with the directorate’s representative, with the participation of several faculty members from Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering, in order to provide scientific and technical support in addressing these challenges.

During the meeting, the discussion addressed problems related to the declining levels of the Tigris River and its impact on water supply, as well as issues concerning water distribution networks in residential neighborhoods within the city.

An agreement was reached to establish a cooperative mechanism to study these problems and propose appropriate solutions. There is also a possibility of organizing a joint symposium after completing the study, with the aim of highlighting the identified problems and the proposed solutions. This initiative reflects the College of Engineering’s openness to working with state institutions and its readiness to offer assistance that contributes to serving the community.
