Training Course in Department of Mechatronics Engineering on “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Development of Medical Engineering Systems”

As part of the scientific activities of College of Engineering and its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), Department of Mechatronics Engineering concluded a training course entitled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Development of Medical Engineering Systems” on Sunday, June 21, 2026. The course was attended by a number of faculty members and engineers from College of Engineering .
The course aimed to introduce the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence and its modern applications in the field of medical engineering, enhance the role of AI technologies in the development of intelligent medical devices and systems, review the latest global trends in integrating artificial intelligence with medical systems, present the design and evaluation of AI-based medical engineering solutions, and discuss the technical, ethical, and regulatory challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence in this field.
The training program covered several key topics, including an introduction to intelligent medical engineering systems, the integration of sensors and control systems with artificial intelligence technologies, AI applications in medical devices, AI-supported medical diagnostic systems, medical robotics based on artificial intelligence techniques, supporting algorithms and methodologies, as well as the technical and ethical challenges facing this rapidly evolving domain.
The course was delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Azhar AbdulLatif, Lecturer Dr. Zahraa Tariq Mohammed, Lecturer Mohammed Tariq Mohammed, Assist. Lecturer Abeer Khalil Ibrahim, and Assist. Lecturer Omar Khalid Mohammed Ali.
The course reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to promote scientific knowledge, strengthen professional competencies, and keep pace with technological advancements in artificial intelligence and medical engineering, thereby contributing to the development of innovative healthcare solutions and supporting sustainable development objectives.
