Master Thesis on “Analysis and Design of Multilayer Thin Film for Wideband Filter in the Infrared Region”

A Master thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “Analysis and Design of Multilayer Thin Film for Wideband Filter in the Infrared Region” submitted by (Younis Abdulelah Younis), Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Tariq Yaseen as First Supervisor and Prof. Dr. Khalid Khalil as Second Supervisor on Thursday , Oct. 06, 2022.
In this thesis, an extensive study was carried out in the design and simulation of different types of infrared. Four designs of multi-layer infrared filter were obtained, three of which are in the far region μm (14-8) with full width at half maximum (FWHM) length of 6μm and one design in the near region μm (1-3) with full width in half The maximum (FWHM) length is 2μm using many kinds of materials such as AL2O3, ASI, Ge, LIF, GAAS, ZnS and MgF2. And the optical properties of these different types of semiconductors and insulators were studied.A computer simulation program called (TF Calc) was used to make infrared filter designs, which is one of the modern programs used to simulate and analyze infrared filters, and another program was used to check the results called (Essential Macleod), which is also a program specializing in thin films. The ability to audit and analyze designs. The obtained simulation results show, that the transmittance of the infrared filter (GE-ZnS) with 17 layers is about 78% for μm wavelength (12-8.5) and with 21 layers is about 84% for μm wavelength (13-8.5), While it is about 92% for the wavelength μm (13-9) with 72 layers, we notice that the transmittance increases within the required range with the increase in the number of layers, and therefore because the increase in the number of layers blocks the wavelengths outside the required range, which positively affects the response of the filter.
