Master thesis on “Thermal performance of solar-based under floor heating system with latent heat storage in Mosul city-Iraq”

A master thesis was discussed in Department of Mechanical Engineering /College of Engineering/ University of Mosul entitled “Thermal performance of solar-based under floor heating system with latent heat storage in Mosul city-Iraq” on Thursday, Feb. 08, 2024.

The thesis submitted by student Sarah Qais Khalil discussed the evaluation of the thermal performance of an underfloor heating system based on solar energy. The study aimed to show the extent of the decrease in the energy consumption of the auxiliary heater with the addition of phase change materials and without the addition of these materials and the extent of the effect of these materials on thermal comfort conditions. The thesis also included creating a computer program to evaluate the performance of the underfloor heating system by showing the effect of the area of the solar collector and the size of the thermal tank on the thermal performance and the energy of the auxiliary heater.
The results of the study showed that the design of an underfloor heating system based on solar energy with the addition of phase change materials provides thermal comfort, which improves the thermal performance of this system and reduces the energy consumption of the auxiliary heater.

The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Habo Muhammad (University of Mosul/College of Engineering), and the membership of both Assistant Professor Dr. Arkan Fawzi Saeed (University of Dohuk/College of Engineering) and Assistant Professor Raqeeb Hamadi Rajab (University of Mosul/College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering), with supervision and membership. Both Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Muhammad Hamdoun and Assistant Professor Ziad Muhammad Majeed.
