Master thesis in Electrical Department on ” Antenna Array Pattern Shaping Using Elements Positions Control”

A Master thesis was discussed in Department of Electrical Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled, “Antenna Array Pattern Shaping Using Elements Positions Control”, submitted by (Noor Mohammed Qassim) Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Jafar Ramadhan Mohammed On Monday, February ,24, 2025.
The thesis presented by, “Noor Mohammed Qassim” , aimed at “Antenna Array Pattern Shaping Using Elements Positions Control, determining the optimal positions of the antenna elements, eliminating overlap between the positions of the elements, studying the performance of non-uniformly spaced arrays, and comparing them in terms of side lobe level, directivity, and computation time.
The thesis discusses methods for controlling the inter-element spacing design between elements extensively as an alternative to methods for controlling the amplitude and/or phase of element excitation to achieve the desired array pattern. The impact of the problem of overlapping element positions was clarified, and two effective approaches were proposed to solve it while maintaining the overall array directivity and simulating it using MATLAB.
The results showed, simulation confirm the effectiveness of the proposed two solutions, where the probability of the elements overlap occurrence has been reduced to zero under specific constraints on some of the element positions, while the peak side lobe levels were kept always below -15 dB and the directivity was maintained as close as possible to that of the standard uniformly spaced arrays.
