Master’s Thesis at College of Engineering on “Enhancing the Security of the AODV Routing Protocol Using Artificial Intelligence”

Department of Computer Engineering at College of Engineering, University of Mosul, held a master’s thesis defense for the thesis titled “Enhancing the Security of the AODV Routing Protocol Using Artificial Intelligence” on Sunday, June 01, 2025 .

The thesis, submitted by student Zainab Bashar Ibrahim, focused on building an effective system using artificial intelligence models to detect and counter black hole and wormhole attacks. The main objective of the research was to develop an intrusion detection system for these attacks by utilizing a dataset as input to train advanced AI models, including Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN).

The results demonstrated exceptional performance of the proposed BWADS (Black and Wormhole Attack Detection System). The SVM model achieved a detection accuracy of 99.96%, while the CNN model showed superiority in identifying combined attacks. The thesis also involved analyzing key performance metrics such as network throughput, delay, received traffic, and packet loss, to assess the impact of these types of attacks.
