Publication of a New Research Paper in Electrical Engineering

As part of the scientific activities of College of Engineering at University of Mosul, and in line with its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 4 Quality Education and Goal 9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure—a new research paper in the field of Electrical Engineering has been published by Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Sharaf Al-Din Yahya Al-Yuzbaki, Lecturer Ali Abbawi Mohammed, and Assistant Lecturer Raghad Adeeb Othman, on September 1, 2025, entitled:
“Mitigating mismatch power losses in photovoltaic systems under partial shading: a comparative study of series-parallel and alternative configurations”.
The paper appeared in the International Journal of Applied Power Engineering, which is indexed in Scopus and ranked Q2 as a multidisciplinary journal, as well as Q3 in the field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The study presents a 5 kW photovoltaic (PV) system for residential applications and investigates multiple partial shading scenarios. The results indicate that the highest system efficiency, 82.84%, was achieved when partial shading irradiation (Ir = 500 W/m²) was applied to a single column (5 modules). Conversely, the lowest performance was observed under corner shading and random shading conditions involving 8 modules, where the efficiency dropped to approximately 39.24% and 40.64%, respectively.
