A Training Course in Department of Civil Engineering on “Concrete Admixtures: Between Performance Enhancement and Sustainability”

As part of the scientific activities of College of Engineering and its efforts to support Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Department of Civil Engineering, in cooperation with the Studies and Planning Department / Sustainable Development Unit, is organizing a training course titled “Concrete Admixtures: Between Performance Enhancement and Sustainability” from November 30 to December 7, 2025.
The course targets faculty members, engineers, and postgraduate students.

The course focuses on understanding various concrete admixtures, their mechanisms, and their effects on fresh and hardened concrete, with emphasis on sustainable and pozzolanic additives derived from industrial waste. It also highlights methods to reduce shrinkage and improve concrete durability.

Lecturers include Assistant Professor Dr. Sufyan Younis Ahmed (course supervisor), Assistant Professor Dr. Udai Asal Saleh, Assistant Professor Rana Burhan Abdulrahman, Lecturer Zeina Adel Mohammed, and Lecturer Rua Suhail Mohammed.

The program covers admixture performance, an overview of admixture types, and sustainable concrete solutions through pozzolanic additives. A final evaluation exam will be given to participants.
