Workshop in Department of Electrical Engineering on “Standard Testing of Electrical Cables”

As part of College of Engineering’s activities and in support of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Department of Electrical Engineering held a workshop on Sunday, November 30, 2025, titled “Standard Testing of Electrical Cables.”
The workshop was attended by faculty members of the department.

It covered the latest methods for testing electrical cables, including detailed explanations of standards IEC 60228, IEC 60502-1, IEC 60332, IEC 60811, and TS EN 50525-2-31. Participants were shown real laboratory tests from the College of Engineering, including measurements of insulation and sheath thickness, electrical resistance tests, high-voltage tests, flame resistance tests, comparative analysis of results, and common errors with methods to avoid them.

The workshop aimed to promote adherence to standard specifications, improve the efficiency of cable testing personnel, and reduce operational failures caused by non-compliant cables.

It was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Nasr Bahjat, Assistant Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Ismail Al-Naib, Lecturer Dr. Heba Nazem Amin Al-Kawaz, and Assistant Lecturer Ammar Shamil Hanoun. The session concluded with discussions highlighting the importance of testing in protecting electrical systems.
