The Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the College of Environmental Sciences, University of Mosul,
Professor Dr. (Mohammed Ibrahim Khalil), participated as a member of the PhD dissertation defense committee for the student (Zahraa Jasim Ramadan) from the Department of Biology, College of Science – University of Mosul, for her dissertation entitled:

“Role of miRNA Molecule and DNA Methylation in Regulation of Gene Expression for Circadian Rhythm Genes in Mental Disorders.”

The dissertation aimed to measure the gene expression levels of circadian clock genes and to clarify the role of miRNA molecules and DNA methylation in regulating gene expression, based on advanced molecular and clinical techniques, including qPCR, PCR, and gene sequencing technologies, as well as measuring the levels of the hormones melatonin and cortisol.

The study results revealed clear abnormalities in gene expression and methylation patterns, contributing to the understanding of circadian rhythm disorders associated with mental conditions.
