Two seminars in the Department of Environmental Sciences, the first related to the Qayyarah Refinery and its workers, and the second related to groundwater in agricultural areas..

 

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Yusra Majeed Al-Shaker, and under the supervision and attendance of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Shaima Khalil Abdullah, and the Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil, and within the series of seminars for graduate students in the Department of Environmental Sciences, the department held two seminars on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 in the college discussion hall, the first was given by master’s student Ahmed Issa Wahbi entitled “Evaluation of the molecular and biochemical impact of pollutants emitted from the Qayyarah Refinery on the health of its workers”, and the second was given by master’s student Hudhaifa Mahmoud Aziz entitled “Study of improving the quality of groundwater in agricultural areas using sustainable methods and its impact on food security”

The first included estimating the concentration of gaseous pollutants emitted from the Qayyarah Refinery units and estimating some heavy elements in the blood of workers exposed to pollutants.

While the second study session included a study of the quantity and quality of water for some wells in agricultural areas and villages near the city of Mosul, and also included an investigation into the quality and quantity of groundwater in specific areas of Nineveh Governorate.
