Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Muthanna Jassim Muhammad Al-Taie, and the supervision of the Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil, as part of a series of seminars for graduate students in the department, two seminars were held at the Department of Environmental Sciences at the College of Environmental Sciences on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The first, presented by student Radwan Hashim Fathi, was titled “Identifying Optimal Landfill Sites for Waste in Response to the New Urban Expansion of Mosul.” It included an analysis of several spatial criteria, such as land use, distance from residential areas, water sources, and road networks, using spatial analysis techniques and the AHP method. The aim was to identify optimal waste landfill sites in Mosul using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in response to the recent urban expansion.
Student Zainab Omar Hazem delivered the second seminar, titled “Environmental Sustainability of the Jerkas Formation in Selected Areas of the Kurdistan Region of Northern Iraq.” The seminar included an analysis of the Jerkas Formation, one of the environmental, geological, and engineering formations, with the aim of achieving optimal use of its sediments.
