Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and in the presence of the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Omar Idris, the Master’s thesis defense in the Department of Environmental Sciences, entitled “Assessment of Public Health Risks Associated with Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria in Slaughterhouse Wastewater and Potential Treatment Methods,” was held this morning, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in the discussion hall of our college. The defense was held for student Rahma Najmuddin Abdullah Al-Najjar, and was titled “Public Health Risk Assessment Associated with Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria in Slaughterhouse Wastewater and Potential Treatment Methods.” The thesis was presented by Professor Nuha Salim Muhammad, and included Assistant Professor Omar Ahmed Abdullah and Assistant Professor Ashraf Siddiq Elias. The defense committee was supervised and included Assistant Professor Ayman Muhammad Jabr. The study aimed to isolate bacteria present in slaughterhouse wastewater and identify them using specialized chromogenic agar media. The goal was to accurately identify bacterial species and assess microbial diversity in the environmental samples studied. The study also achieved five Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
At the conclusion of the discussion, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Omar Idris, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Professor Dr. Nuha Salem Mohammed, University of Mosul/Presidency of the University of Mosul, and to Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Ahmed Abdullah, University of Mosul/College of Veterinary Medicine, in appreciation of their scientific efforts.
