The College of Environmental Sciences discusses a master’s thesis on the use of some types of fungi to dispose of expired raw materials.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and with the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Muthanna Jassim Al-Taie, the Master’s thesis defense in the Department of Environmental Sciences, entitled “The Use of Some Species of Fungi to Dispose of Expired Raw Materials (Biodegradation Used in the Pharmaceutical Industry)”, was held this morning, Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the discussion hall of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering. The thesis defense was held for student Rana Raed Shukri Mahmoud in the discussion hall of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering.
The defense committee was chaired by Professor Nadim Ahmed Ramadan, with members including Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil and Assistant Professor Rawaa Mahmoud Daoud, and under the supervision and membership of Assistant Professor Muhammad Yahya Ali.
The study aimed to identify fungal species capable of degrading expired pharmaceutical raw materials, evaluate the efficiency of these fungi in decomposing pharmaceutical compounds, and provide innovative environmental solutions for the disposal of pharmaceutical waste. The study achieved six Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
At the conclusion of the discussion, Professor Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Khalil, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Professor Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Ramadan, from Al-Hadbaa University / College of Health and Medical Technology, in recognition of his distinguished scientific efforts and valuable comments.
