The College of Environmental Sciences discusses a master’s thesis on evaluating the molecular and biochemical impact of pollutants emitted from the Qayyarah refinery.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and with the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Muthanna Jassim Al-Taie, the master’s thesis discussion in the Department of Environmental Sciences, entitled “Evaluation of the Molecular and Biochemical Impact of Pollutants Emitted from the Qayyarah Refinery on the Health of its Workers,” was held this morning, Sunday, September 7, 2025, in the discussion hall of our college. The thesis, presented by student Ahmed Issa Wahbi Mustafa, was titled “Evaluation of the Molecular and Biochemical Impact of Pollutants Emitted from the Qayyarah Refinery on the Health of its Workers.” The thesis was chaired by Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil, and included Assistant Professor Fatima Qasim Muhammad and Assistant Professor Liqaa Saeed Abdullah. The discussion committee was supervised and included Assistant Professor Shaima Khalil Abdullah and Professor Mahmoud Ismail Muhammad. The study aimed to measure the concentrations of some pollutants emitted during the operation of the refinery’s units, as well as the concentrations and values of some blood gases in the blood of refinery workers. The study also achieved seven Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
At the conclusion of the discussion, the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Taie, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Fatima Qasim Muhammad, University of Mosul/College of Science, in recognition of her distinguished scientific efforts and valuable observations.
