A workshop at the College of Environmental Sciences focused on afforestation and its role in promoting sustainable development goals.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Muhammad Al-Taie, and in the presence of department heads, the College of Environmental Sciences/Department of Environmental Health, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at our college, the Northern Technical University/Technology Incubator Unit, and the Studies and Planning Department/Sustainable Development Unit at the University of Mosul Presidency, held a scientific workshop entitled “The Environmental Impact of Urban Afforestation and Its Role in Promoting Sustainable Development Goals” this morning, Thursday, October 9, 2025, in the college’s discussion hall. The workshop was delivered by:

The workshop included a discussion of the environmental, urban, and health aspects of urban afforestation, and its role in improving air quality, reducing temperatures, and enhancing biodiversity within cities. It also focused on the importance of involving the community and academic institutions in sustainable afforestation initiatives. The workshop achieved three Sustainable Development Goals: 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 13 (Climate Action), and 15 (Life on Land).
In conclusion, Dr. Muhammad Yahya Alawi, Head of the Environmental Health Department, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Anas Muhammad Azhar of the Northern Technical University for his valuable efforts and distinguished presentation.
