A master’s thesis was discussed in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences regarding the biological treatment of water using containers dyed with nanomaterials.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and in the presence of the Vice Deans for Scientific and Administrative Affairs and the Heads of Departments, the Master’s thesis entitled “Biological Treatment of Water Using Containers Coated with Nanomaterials” by student Shahd Hussein Younis was discussed this morning, Thursday, November 6, 2025, in the discussion hall of our college.

The discussion committee was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Shaimaa Hashim Abdul Rahman, with members Assistant Professor Dr. Safaa Mahmoud Sultan and Lecturer Dr. Marwa Nizar Abdul Fattah. The thesis was supervised and examined by Assistant Professor Dr. Yusra Majeed Shihab and Lecturer Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Mohammed.

The study addressed the problem of water pollution by using a reactor coated with nanomaterials such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide, and exposing it to direct sunlight to utilize the catalytic properties of these materials in enhancing the efficiency of biological treatment. The study also evaluated the effectiveness of nanomaterials in removing certain types of bacteria, particularly Escherichia coli and Bacillus. The study contributed to five of the Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and Goal 13 (Climate Action).

At the conclusion of the discussion, Dr. Mohammed Waleed Saeed Al-Abbasi, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Safaa Mahmoud Sultan, Northern Technical University/Medical Technical Institute.
