Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, and with the attendance of the Head of the Department of Environmental Technologies, Assistant Professor Dr. Hazem Jumaa Mahmoud, a seminar entitled “Geotechnical Engineering: Foundations of Structural Stability and Soil Control” was held in the Department of Environmental Technologies. The seminar was presented by Lecturer Hanan Riyadh Jarallah, a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Technologies at our college.

The seminar included an explanation of geotechnical engineering, a major branch of civil engineering. It focuses on studying the behavior of soil and rocks under various loads to design foundations and underground structures safely and efficiently. Its tasks include field and laboratory investigations to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, such as density, cohesion, permeability, and shear strength. Foundation engineering, then, is the practical application of the results of geotechnical studies to design shallow and deep foundations capable of safely transferring loads to suitable soil layers.
