The training course on using chemical methods to estimate pollutants has begun at the College of Environmental Sciences.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, and with the follow-up of Dr. Mohammed Yahya Alawi, Head of the Department of Environmental Health, and as part of the activities of the Continuing Education Unit to contribute to raising and developing the skills of staff in government departments, and in cooperation with the University of Mosul Presidency / Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the training course entitled “Using Chemical Methods in Estimating Environmental Pollutants” commenced on Sunday, November 23, 2025, in the college’s discussion hall. The course will continue for five days until November 27, 2025.
The first lecture, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Yusra Majeed Shihab, was entitled “Methods of Evaluating Water Suitability for Drinking and Various Uses.” Water analysis is a fundamental step in water treatment processes, as water properties vary depending on its source. Water remains a pivotal element for the continuation of life for all living organisms. Any change, however slight, in a natural water source can lead to widespread effects within the components of the ecosystem, including non-living components such as soil, thus affecting the balance and stability of ecosystems. Water characteristics and quality are key indicators of its suitability for use, whether for agriculture, industry, or drinking. To determine this suitability and understand the problems that different water sources may face, specialized analyses are conducted to obtain the data necessary for making informed decisions regarding their management and treatment.
The program achieved five Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
