Training course on chemical safety in science laboratories launched at the College of Environmental Sciences

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, President of the University of Mosul, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Muthanna Jassim Al-Tai, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, and with the follow-up and attendance of Assistant Professor Dr. Hazem Jumaa Mahmoud, Head of the Department of Environmental Technologies, and as part of the activities of the Continuing Education Unit to contribute to raising and developing the skills of staff in government departments, and in cooperation with the University of Mosul Presidency/Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Safety and Security Division, the training course entitled “Chemical Safety in Science Laboratories… Effective Strategies for Reducing Risks” commenced on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in the college’s discussion hall. The course will continue for five days until December 11, 2025.

The first day of the course included two lectures:

The first lecture, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Abdul-Munim Al-Jawadi, addressed the importance of continuous training for laboratory personnel and best practices in the use of personal protective equipment. Applied safety procedures that reduce risks and ensure a safe working environment were also reviewed.

The second lecture, delivered by Dr. Ragheed Yousef Ghazal, addressed the importance of understanding effective techniques for the safe disposal of chemical waste, emphasizing the need to adhere to environmental standards to ensure the protection of both the environment and employees.

These strategies contribute to creating a safe working environment and reducing the likelihood of workplace accidents. The course targeted five of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 4, 6, 8, and 12).
