A Specialized Scientific Visit to the Medicinal Herbarium at the College of Pharmacy: Advancing Sustainable Applied Education

In alignment with efforts to bolster applied education and foster academic partnerships, the Medicinal Herbarium at the College of Pharmacy hosted a scientific delegation from the Northern Technical University / Agricultural Technical College / Department of Medicinal Plants and Natural Products Techniques. The delegation, comprising faculty members and students, conducted the visit on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
The visit featured a specialized scientific tour where the delegation examined a diverse collection of medicinal and aromatic plants cultivated within the herbarium, including Thymus vulgaris (Thyme), Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary), Coriandrum sativum (Coriander), Mentha (Mint), and Lavandula (Lavender). The tour included detailed scientific briefings on the bioactive compounds synthesized by these species—such as flavonoids, tannins, phenols, and alkaloids—and their fundamental roles in determining the therapeutic and pharmacological properties of the plants.
Furthermore, this initiative serves as a strategic contribution toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, it addresses Goal 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing experiential learning and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It also aligns with Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by advancing scientific literacy regarding medicinal flora and their active constituents. Moreover, the visit reinforces Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by consolidating scientific collaboration between academic institutions.
Such activities underscore the commitment of both institutions to adopting sustainable educational practices. These efforts aim to cultivate highly qualified scientific expertise capable of serving the community and meeting the developmental demands of the health and agricultural sectors.
