College of Science Launches Awareness Campaign on Drug Abuse and Its Impact on Society

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the College of Science organized an awareness campaign titled “Drugs and Their Impact on Society” on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in the Department of Biology.

The campaign was part of the college’s ongoing community-awareness initiatives and was organized by the Women’s Affairs Committee in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Unit at the University Presidency, and the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division at the College of Science.

The campaign included the distribution of informative brochures to students and academic staff, highlighting the physical, psychological, and social harms caused by drug use. It also emphasized the essential role of families and educational institutions in raising awareness and preventing the spread of this dangerous phenomenon.

The campaign aimed to safeguard students from the dangers of drug abuse, increase their awareness of its risks to both individuals and society, and support key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • Good Health and Well-being

  • Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
