College meeting in the Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences to discuss curriculum development and enhance scientific research

In accordance with the directives of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim Al-Tai, an expanded meeting of the college and administrative staff of the Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences was held on Monday morning, October 20, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Omar Khaloq Mohammed Sajid, Head of the Department, and attended by Dr. Saddam Issa Mustafa, Department Coordinator, and other esteemed faculty and administrative staff members.
The meeting addressed several important scientific and administrative topics, most notably the development of undergraduate and graduate curricula to align with the demands of the modern job market, and prioritizing applied subjects that support students’ practical training. Emphasis was also placed on developing and equipping the department’s laboratories with modern equipment and on rehabilitating and maintaining the geological workshop to provide a comprehensive learning environment.
The attendees also stressed the importance of supporting and encouraging student activities that enhance students’ skills and instill in them a spirit of initiative and creativity. Furthermore, they urged the publication of scientific research in international databases indexed in Scopus, given its impact on raising the level of scientific research and improving the ranking of the college and the university.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the importance of cooperation among all members of the department to achieve the desired scientific and educational goals was emphasized.
