A scientific course entitled “Scientific Diagnosis of Poisonous Plants and Their Role in Sustainable Development”

Exploiting the potential harm of some plants to support sustainable development, the Department of Biology Sciences held a scientific course entitled “Scientific Diagnosis of Poisonous Plants and Their Role in Sustainable Development.”
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and with the follow-up and attendance of the Head of the Department of Life Sciences, Professor Dr. Amjad Abdul-Hadi, a scientific course was held as part of the Continuing Education Program in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning/Sustainable Development Unit from October 19-23, 2025, entitled: “Scientific Diagnosis of Poisonous Plants and Their Role in Sustainable Development.” The workshop on “Sustainable Development” was presented by Dr. Najla Tariq Hassan, Dr. Hala Mazhar Yaqoub, and Ms. Fadia Nour El-Din Saeed, and was attended by a number of faculty members and students from the department.
The workshop covered several topics, including the concept and classification of toxic plants, their vital role in ecosystems, their impact on biodiversity, their industrial uses, and how to manage their risks in natural environments. It also addressed the types of toxins they produce, their chemical classification, and their health risks. Finally, the workshop explored the role of toxic plant management in promoting environmental sustainability in natural systems.
