Workshop entitled “The Importance of Plant Tissue Culture in Pharmacology”

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi,

and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, and the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Biology Sciences, Professor Dr. Amjad Abdulhadi Mohammed, the Department of Biology Sciences, as part of the Continuing Education Unit’s activities, organized a workshop entitled “The Importance of Plant Tissue Culture in Pharmacology” on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

The workshop was presented by Mr. Ashraf Mohammed Hamed and Mr. Azza Adel Rashid.

The workshop addressed the importance of plant tissue culture in pharmacology, which aims to produce medicinal compounds in large quantities and reduce reliance on collecting plants from nature, while also allowing for controlled conditions to produce more effective compounds. The possibility of developing new medicines from plant sources was also discussed. Among its modern applications are the use of genetic engineering to improve the production of pharmaceutical materials, the production of therapeutic vaccines from plant compounds, and the development of plant-based biopharmaceutical plants for large-scale, sustainable, and environmentally friendly drug production.

We wish our college  and all those involved in this event continued success and dedication to serving science and advancing society.
