College of Science Hosts International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism

Violent Extremism… The Hidden Threat to the Future of University Students
The College of Science at the University of Mosul, in cooperation with the Department of Psychological Counseling at the University Presidency, hosted a special event on Thursday, February 12, 2026, marking the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism. The event was attended by representatives from various university colleges, the Iraqi National Security Service, and the Nineveh Operations Command of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
The program featured a theatrical performance highlighting the importance of social cohesion and its role in confronting extremist ideologies, alongside a series of research presentations addressing strategies for combating extremism, promoting a culture of dialogue, and strengthening social bonds within the university community.
Speakers and organizers emphasized the vital role of universities in raising students’ awareness of the dangers posed by extremist thinking through counseling programs and awareness activities that provide intellectual and psychological support. These efforts contribute to preparing a conscious and responsible generation capable of promoting security, stability, and social harmony.
The initiative reflects the University of Mosul’s ongoing commitment to fostering moderation, openness, and constructive dialogue while reinforcing humanitarian and national values within the academic environment.
