University of Mosul and Soran University Discuss Enhancing Scientific Cooperation in Petroleum and Geology Specializations

As part of its continuous efforts to strengthen its scientific presence and expand its network of academic partnerships, the University of Mosul continues to promote a strategy of openness and knowledge integration with Iraqi universities, contributing to the advancement of scientific research and the development of higher education.

In this context, the College of Science at the University of Mosul welcomed Dr. Namam Mohammed Salih, a faculty member in the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, College of Engineering, Soran University – Erbil, on a scientific visit aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and activating areas of joint collaboration between the two institutions.

During the visit, Dr. Namam met with the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, in the presence of the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Omar Adel Sharif, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Riyan Mazin Faisal, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Iraqi Journal of Earth Sciences, Professor Riyan Ghazi Dhnoon.

The meeting focused on exploring prospects for cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly petroleum reservoir geochemistry and petroleum geology, as well as discussing opportunities for exchanging scientific expertise and promoting joint research activities between the two universities.

Dr. Namam also proposed organizing a series of specialized lectures for students of the Department of Geology and Petroleum Science, focusing on the latest technologies and advanced instruments used in petroleum reservoir studies. Such initiatives are expected to enhance the research and practical skills of students and researchers while keeping pace with the rapid scientific developments in this important field.

For her part, Professor Hiyam Adel Ibrahim expressed her appreciation for this scientific initiative, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation among Iraqi universities and exchanging academic expertise. She noted that such collaborations play a significant role in advancing scientific and research standards and supporting the quality of higher education.

This visit reflects the University of Mosul’s commitment to expanding academic partnerships and fostering collaborative scientific activities that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
