Workshop on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and Mechanisms for Achieving Its Objectives

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the Women’s Affairs Committee at the College of Science, in cooperation with the Department of Studies and Planning / Sustainable Development Unit, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency, and the Educational and Psychological Research Center at the University of Mosul, organized a scientific workshop entitled:
“United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and Mechanisms for Achieving Its Objectives.”
The workshop was held within the framework of implementing the Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security, specifically under the pillars of Protection and Prevention, in line with national and international efforts aimed at strengthening the role of women and ensuring their active participation in peacebuilding and decision-making processes.
The workshop aimed to highlight the provisions of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, focusing on its key pillars: participation, protection, prevention, and relief and recovery. It also addressed mechanisms for implementing the resolution at both the national and institutional levels, while promoting awareness of the importance of empowering women across academic and community sectors.
The workshop lectures were delivered by:
- Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Mahfoudh Hamid, Director of the Educational and Psychological Research Center
- Lecturer Dr. Hiba Khalil Saeed
- Assistant Lecturer Alin Muwaffaq Khalil, Head of the Women’s Affairs Committee
The workshop was linked to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 5: Gender Equality
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
- SDG 4: Quality Education
The workshop took place on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall of the Department of Medical Physics.
During the event, the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, awarded a Letter of Appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Yasser Mahfoudh Hamid in recognition of his valuable contribution and active participation in the workshop.
The College Deanship and the cooperating entities reaffirmed their commitment to supporting awareness initiatives that promote equality, strengthen the role of women in the academic community, and contribute to building a safe, equitable, and participatory educational environment in line with the University’s vision.
