Field Scientific Visit to the Iraqi Meteorological Directorate in Mosul

In implementation of the directives of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, with the follow-up of the Head of the Department of New and Renewable Energies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Munir Suhail, the Department of New and Renewable Energies at the College of Science organized a field scientific visit to the Iraqi Meteorological Directorate / Mosul Station on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, with the participation of a number of the department’s academic staff.
The visit was conducted as part of the College’s commitment to strengthening the practical aspects of students’ education and expanding their scientific horizons by linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. During the visit, students were introduced to the instruments used for measuring meteorological and climatic elements, including temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and wind speed, among others. They also learned about the mechanisms employed in collecting meteorological data, analyzing weather information, and preparing official weather forecasts and climate reports.
At the conclusion of the visit, an agreement was reached to adopt official meteorological data provided by the Directorate in students’ research projects related to renewable energy applications. This step is expected to enhance the accuracy and scientific reliability of future studies.
The College of Science extends its sincere appreciation to the administration and staff of the Iraqi Meteorological Directorate in Mosul for their warm reception, valuable cooperation, and the scientific information they shared, which contributed significantly to broadening students’ knowledge and strengthening their practical experience.
